Send a message(+30) 2610 221354Greek chamomile consists of whole Matricaria recutita flowers with a sweet characteristic aroma. It is one of the best-known herbs for gentle digestion, relaxation and external applications.
It contains an essential oil rich in alpha-bisabolol and chamazulene, plus flavonoids led by apigenin. Its character is antispasmodic, carminative, soothing, anti-inflammatory and mildly antiseptic.
Chamomile tea is used for colic, flatulence and indigestion, gastritis, ulcerative colitis and irritable-bowel discomfort within herbal tradition. Its gentle soothing character is associated with restlessness and difficulty sleeping, and tradition also includes age-adjusted use in children.
Externally it is used for irritated skin and eczema, superficial wound healing and swelling, as a mouth rinse for gingivitis and as a cool compress over closed eyelids. Eye-area use requires a fresh, well-strained infusion, applied externally with separate cotton for each eye.
Tea: infuse 1.5–4 g of flowers in 150 ml of boiling water for 5–10 minutes, 3–4 times daily for adults and adolescents. Children require age-adjusted guidance.
Mouth rinse or compress: prepare a fresh, stronger infusion, cool completely and use externally. Around the eyes, apply only to closed eyelids and never as eye drops.
Quantities are indicative and based on traditional use and published phytotherapy literature. For prolonged use or when taking medication, consult a healthcare professional.
For gentle relaxation, chamomile pairs with lemon balm or linden. For digestion it combines well with fennel, anise or mint.
Avoid with known Asteraceae allergy, including ragweed, arnica or chrysanthemum sensitivity. Non-sterile tea must not be instilled into the eyes. Stop an external compress if burning or irritation appears. Seek advice with sedative or anticoagulant medicines when using large amounts or for long periods.
An indicative adult and adolescent amount is 1.5–4 g of flowers in 150 ml of boiling water for 5–10 minutes.
It is commonly taken after a meal when the focus is bloating, colic or indigestion.
Only as a fully cooled external compress on closed eyelids, using fresh infusion and separate cotton for each eye.
