Send a message(+30) 2610 221354A highly active herbal drug containing tropane alkaloids. Belladonna root has historical pharmacological importance and is reserved exclusively for professional handling, educational use or pharmacognostic study.
Atropine, hyoscyamine and scopolamine exert strong anticholinergic effects. The page highlights the pharmacological identity of its tropane alkaloids and the need for exclusively professional handling.
Historically, controlled belladonna preparations were used in pharmacology for:
as well as bronchial asthma and nausea. Pre-anaesthetic, mydriatic and local-anaesthetic applications are also recorded.
All parts of the plant also appear in historical homeopathic literature. Atropine, hyoscyamine and scopolamine remain important pharmacological substances in strictly standardised medicines under professional supervision.
No dosage, infusion, decoction or other internal or external recipe is provided. Handling is restricted to a suitably trained professional.
The quantities are indicative and based on traditional use and published herbal-medicine literature. For prolonged use or when taking medication, consult a healthcare professional.
Professional handling concerns the single, strictly identified herbal drug. Any concurrent exposure to anticholinergic, sedative or cardiac substances is assessed by a specialist.
Self-use is prohibited. Poisoning may cause dry mouth, dilated pupils, blurred vision, rapid heartbeat, urinary retention, severe agitation, delirium, seizures or coma. Suspected exposure requires immediate poison-centre or emergency medical assistance. Keep entirely away from children and avoid during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
No. Raw belladonna root is highly toxic and no home recipe or dosage is provided.
Its tropane alkaloids became the basis of controlled medicines with anticholinergic actions.
Seek emergency medical help or contact a poison centre immediately without waiting for symptoms.
